The following brands are currently in open beta: 1KOMMA5°, Anker, Enphase, FoxESS, GivEnergy
We are constantly working with a number of solar battery manufacturers to integrate our SmartShift technology with an increasing number of brands. Before an integration generally available, it must go through internal testing, an invite-only beta phase and then open beta phase.
What can I expect from SmartShift during open beta?
When registering your system for SmartShift, you may see a message that says, "⚠️ Your device's brand support is currently in beta", which tells you the integration for your device's brand is currently under active development. During this phase, we consider the brand as compatible - so you'll be able to access all of the features in the Devices tab of the Amber app. That said, we are still working on smoothing out the functionality of some features.
We rigorously test before progressing to open beta, but real-world variables like varying firmware versions, internet connection stability, network/API limits, specific hardware configurations, and a number of other factors can impact the performance of SmartShift.
Consequently, you may experience occasional connectivity dropouts, missed commands, or periods where we need to temporarily pause automation to adjust how SmartShift works with the settings on your system.
What actually takes place during open beta?
Because Amber integrates directly with your inverter to stream data and send control commands, we need to ensure this behaves consistently and accurately across a wide range of setups and can scale well with the expected number of enrolments.
During this phase, our engineering team monitors the data streaming from any enrolled devices to identify and fix edge-case bugs that may not appear during internal testing. The open phase can be thought of as the 'stress test' for an integration against real-world conditions allowing us to confirm that our control commands result in the expected battery and solar behaviour, every time.
How do I share my feedback during beta?
Rest assured that if our compatibility with your brand of inverter is currently in open beta, our engineering team will be actively working to improve SmartShift's performance and reliability.
If you notice something odd that you'd like to tell us about, it's best that you report it via the Amber app:
- Open the Amber app, then navigate to the 'Devices' tab
- Tap 'PLAN' in the top right corner
- Tap 'Learn how decisions are made'
- Tap 'Notice something strange?'
- Select an 'Issue' and type in a summary under 'Tell us more'.
- Tap 'Submit'.
