Which 1KOMMA5° systems are compatible?

You can join Amber for Batteries using Amber’s SmartShift technology with the following systems:

  • 1K5-1P-HI-10
  • 1K5-1P-HI-8
  • 1K5-HI-15-V1
  • 1K5-HI-8-V1
  • 1K5-1P-HI-5
  • 1K5-HI-10-V1
  • 1K5-HI-5-V1
  • 1K5-HI-12-V1

Solar curtailment will be automatically configured if your system is DC-coupled. If your system is AC-coupled, then the availability of our automated solar curtailment feature will depend on the compatibility of your existing solar inverter.

How do I sign up to Amber for Batteries?

If you haven't already provided the device details during sign-up for your Amber account, you can register it in the Amber app.

⚡ How to register your device:

  1. Log into the Amber app on your smartphone.
  2. Navigate to the Devices tab and tap on "Enrol solar and/or battery".
  3. Select the type of device(s) you have and then tap "Continue".
👉 If your solar panels connect directly into your battery system (DC-coupled), select “Just Batteries.”
👉 If you have a separate solar inverter from another brand (AC-coupled), select “Batteries & Solar.”
  4. Select the 1KOMMA5° battery picture and then tap "Continue".
  5. Fill in the form and tick the box to confirm that you agree to the SmartShift terms and conditions.
  6. Tap "Add my Device" and then you will be redirected to the PV Hub platform.
  7. Enter your PVHub 2.0 (1KOMMA5°) username and password for the portal. Tick the boxes next to Data access and Device control, and tap Authorise.
⚠️ Important: Your username is case sensitive and the first letter may be automatically capitalised so make sure you enter it exactly as it appears in the PVHub 2.0 (1KOMMA5°) app.

  1. If everything goes well, you’ll see a message like “Authorisation successful.” You should then be redirected back to the Amber app, where the screen below should appear.

There's a problem with my registration, what do I do now?

Below you'll find the most common errors and how you can resolve them.

Issue detected - We couldn't connect to your PVHub 2.0 account. We need your PVHub 2.0 email to authorize the connection.

If you are unable to complete step 7, where you log into the PVHub 2.0 platform to authorise our system to access your device, then you may see an error in Devices tab of the Amber app.

Here's how you can resolve this issue:

  1. Tap Follow step-by-step guide.
  2. Read the instructions.
  3. Enter your inverter's serial number
  4. Enter the email address which is on your profile in PVHub 2.0.
  5. Tap Submit and we'll automatically retry your registration.

Issue detected - Your inverter needs a firmware update before setup can continue.

This happens when your device is not on the minimum firmware version required for the SmartShift automation to function. The good news is that this error automatically triggers a notification to the manufacturer to request they update the firmware on your specific device.

Furthermore, our system runs a daily check for the minimum firmware and your existing registration will automatically progress when the minimum firmware version is recognised. No further action is required from you.

The Amber app shows a different serial number to mine. How do I change it?

Don't worry, this is completely normal and expected!

When you register your 1KOMMA5° system, we retrieve the official device details directly and automatically from the monitoring platform once you are logged in. We do not require you to enter your serial number manually. Instead, you'll see a temporarily a placeholder for the serial number. There is no need for you to change this value; the correct, official device serial number will automatically replace this placeholder once the data is imported from the PV Hub 2.0 monitoring platform.

1KOMMA5° support is currently in beta. What's that mean?

When we say 1KOMMA5° support is currently in beta, it means the integration is still new and we’re working on fine-tuning the automation. Some parts might not run perfectly just yet, but our engineers are keeping a close eye on all enrolled sites and raising any issues with the manufacturer’s technical team so they can be fixed.

Whilst we can’t give an exact date for when we'll remove the beta flag, we will keep the close monitoring  won’t move forward until we’re confident the automation is running smoothly for the vast majority of sites. In the meantime, you can still use all the features in the Devices tab once your device is successfully enrolled.

What happens after I sign up?

We've published this guide on the Amber for Batteries Enrolment Process if you want to take a deep dive.

After you've signed up to Amber and submitted your battery details via the website or app, we will check that your site is all set up to join the SmartShift program. This includes making sure that you've officially transferred to Amber as your electricity retailer, that you've got a smart meter installed and that your meter is configured to record solar exports. All this has to happen before we can continue with the battery enrolment.
