  6. Done!

What happens after I sign up?

We've published this guide on the Amber for Batteries Enrolment Process if you want to take a deep dive.

After you've signed up to Amber and submitted your battery details via the website or app, we will check that your site is all set up to join the SmartShift program. This includes making sure that you've officially transferred to Amber as your electricity retailer, that you've got a smart meter installed and that your meter is configured to record solar exports. All this has to happen before we can continue with the battery enrolment.

Checklist to avoid delays during enrolment

  • My inverter is online
  • I am the plant owner in the GoodWe SEMS+ app
  • The correct battery capacity is listed in the GoodWe SEMS+ app
  • I've unenrolled from any previous VPP's

Ensure you are the owner of your plant in the GoodWe SEMS+ app

To approve Amber's request to control your GoodWe system, you must be the plant owner in the GoodWe SEMS+ app. To check whether you are the plant owner, please follow the steps below:

  1. Download the latest version of the GoodWe SEMS+ app, then log in with your GoodWe account. From the 'Home' tab of the SEMS+ app, tap the 3 dots in the top right-hand corner
  2. Tap 'Basic Information'
  3. Check the email address listed under 'Owner's Email'

If the email address you see listed under 'Owner's Email' is not the email you used to log in to the GoodWe SEMS+ app, you do not have the permissions required to grant Amber the ability to control your system.

If this is the case, please contact your installer to change you to the plant owner.

Ensure your inverter is online

If you can see live data in your GoodWe SEMS+ app, then your inverter is online.

Ensure the correct battery capacity is listed in the GoodWe SEMS+ app

To ensure a smooth onboarding experience, the SEMS+ app must have accurate battery capacity information. To check this, please follow the steps below:

  1. Download the latest version of the GoodWe SEMS+ app, then log in with your GoodWe account. From the 'Home' tab of the SEMS+ app, tap the 3 dots in the top right-hand corner
  2. Tap 'Basic Information'
  3. Check the value shown for ‘Energy Storage Capacity

If the ‘Energy Storage Capacity’ listed does not match the actual installed capacity of your GoodWe system, please contact your installer ahead of onboarding to correct this.

Ensure that you're unenrolled from your previous battery optimisation program

If you've previously enrolled your GoodWe system with another VPP, ensure that the previous provider has completely released control of your system before signing up to SmartShift.

If you're unsure whether you've previously been enrolled in a VPP, see this article for more info: What to do if you're in a virtual power plant (VPP) before you join Amber (+ clues to tell if you're part of a VPP if you're unsure)
