Got a text about a meter visit? Here's what's going on

Don't stress, this is completely normal and nothing's gone wrong.

Even though you're with Amber, we don't actually own your smart meter. It's looked after by a separate metering provider, and every so often they'll pop out to inspect it, fix a fault, or do a bit of routine maintenance. When that happens, they'll text you to confirm the date.

Sometimes that text won't say exactly why they're coming, and that's normal too. They don't always have a way to fit those details into the message.

There's nothing you need to do, the visit's expected and the provider's coming out with our okay. But if you've got questions, we're always happy to help.

So who are these metering providers?

Your meter's managed by one of a handful of accredited providers. The ones our customers hear from most often are:

  • Bluecurrent
  • PLUS ES
  • Intellihub

If you get a message from one of these, that's who's looking after your meter.

Why visit if I've already got a smart meter?

Smart meters still need a bit of attention now and then. Checking for faults, swapping out ageing gear, general upkeep, that sort of thing. It keeps your meter accurate and running the way it should.

Do I need to be home?

Usually not. These visits happen at the meter itself, so they don't need to come inside. The one exception is if something's blocking access to the meter, like a locked gate or a dog in the yard.

Not sure the message is legit?

If a text looks dodgy or you're not sure it's genuine, don't click any links or hand over any personal details. Just reach out to us and we'll help you confirm it.
