Which Enphase systems are compatible?

You can join Amber for Batteries using Amber’s SmartShift technology with the following systems:

  • Any of the above inverters with an Enphase battery

Unsupported Enphase inverters include:

  • M Series Microinverters
  • Older IQ Gateway models (including Envoy-R, Envoy-S-Standard)
  • Sites with ACBs

Note: You will have On/Off solar curtailment without a consumption meter and Load-Following curtailment with a consumption meter.

What happens after I sign up?

We've published this guide on the Amber for Batteries Enrolment Process if you want to take a deep dive.

After you've signed up to Amber and submitted your battery details via the website or app, we will check that your site is all set up to join the SmartShift program. This includes making sure that you've officially transferred to Amber as your electricity retailer, that you've got a smart meter installed and that your meter is configured to record solar exports. All this has to happen before we can continue with the battery enrolment.

Checklist to avoid delays during enrolment

Ensure your inverter is online

If you can see live data in your Ephase Enlighten app, then your inverter is online.

Ensure that you're unenrolled from your previous battery optimisation program

If you've previously enrolled your Enphase system with another VPP, ensure that the previous provider has completely released control of your system before signing up to SmartShift.

If you're unsure whether you've previously been enrolled in a VPP, see this article for more info: What to do if you're in a virtual power plant (VPP) before you join Amber (+ clues to tell if you're part of a VPP if you're unsure)
