If you or someone in your home relies on powered medical equipment, please let us know as soon as possible. We'll register it on your account and notify your distributor, so you get extra protection for your power supply.
The following devices are classed as life support equipment:
- An oxygen concentrator
- An intermittent peritoneal dialysis machine
- A kidney dialysis machine
- A chronic positive airways pressure respirator
- Crigler-Najjar syndrome phototherapy equipment
- A ventilator for life support
- Any other equipment your doctor says you need for life support
The list covers the most common equipment, but it's not exhaustive. If you have any questions about the equipment you or someone in your home uses and whether it is life support equipment, please talk to your doctor.
Can I still sign up for Amber if I have life support equipment?
Yes. Having life support equipment doesn't stop you from joining Amber. You need to let us know immediately so we can register it against your account to ensure you get the right protections. If you have already filled out a medical form with a previous retailer in the past 4 years, then you can email a copy to info@amber.com.au so we can update your life support status.
How do I flag life support equipment with Amber?
You can either add your life support details on sign-up or contact us directly if your property now requires life support. Get in touch with us straight away by calling us on 1800531907 or emailing info@amber.com.au and let us know:
- Your account details
- What equipment is in use at your address
- Who it's for
We'll temporarily flag your account for life support, and you will be sent a copy of the medical confirmation form. You will have 50 business days to return the form; we can also provide extensions if required.
What happens once I'm registered?
Once you're registered as a life support customer, you will have extra protections on your account. That means things like advance notice of planned power interruptions, so you and your household have time to prepare. It also means our team/ network knows to prioritise you if your power has been disconnected.
What if I move house?
Life support registration is tied to your address, not just your account. If you're moving, tell us as early as you can so we can carry your registration across to your new place. Don't leave this until moving day. You will need to fill out a new medical confirmation form for your new address.
What do I do if my power goes out?
If it's a life-threatening emergency, call 000 first.
If you're experiencing a power fault, then you can contact your network directly. Refer to our contact page for network phone numbers.
For anything urgent, call us on 1800 531 907 and select option 1. Our team works Monday to Friday, 9am to 8pm, and weekends 10am to 4pm.
What happens if I don't return the medical confirmation form or no longer require life support?
We will not be able to permanently register you for life support if you don’t complete and return the medical confirmation. We will send you reminders, and if you don't respond, we will deregister your life support after 50 business days.
If you require more time to complete the Medical Confirmation form, please contact us to arrange a once-off extension.
If you no longer require life support, then please let us know so we can deregister your account.
Are there any concessions or rebates for life support customers?
Depending on your state and situation, you may be eligible for a life support rebate, including for medical heating or cooling. Check our concessions page for what applies to you, or ask us directly, and we'll point you in the right direction. We've included some helpful links below. Please note Amber's medical form does not include concessions; we can only apply concessions for state-issued application forms.
