Can we really shut down fossil fuel power plants?

Follow

Shutting down coal and gas is a long term exercise where displacement of fossil fuel power by renewable energy is going to happen over an extended period of time.

Having individuals discharge their batteries during peak time alone isn’t going to be the entire solution - there’s also a major role for large scale solar and wind farms and big battery storage.

But the key point is that the owners of the 150,000 home batteries currently in Australia have an opportunity to play a much bigger role than they are now in getting us through the current crisis while accelerating reductions in demand for coal and gas so we can reach 100% renewable energy sooner.
