Your SmartShift reserve and activity level preference

Follow

This feature is gradually being rolled out to customers. You will be notified within the app when it is available to you.

Set what to keep for your home and blackouts, plus how active SmartShift is.

These settings replace Battery Booster, Earnings Optimiser, and your minimum reserve level. We’ll bring your current settings across, and they can be changed at any time.

Outage reserve

State your power outage reserve. This is locked away for blackouts. It should align with what is in your manufacturer’s app to avoid unwanted battery behaviour.

What this means

  • SmartShift and manual commands can’t use this
  • Your battery will charge from grid to keep this topped up

Manufacturer specific steps are provided in the Amber app. Learn more here.

Home-use reserve preference

State your preference for how much of your battery cannot be access by SmartShift. You can update this home-use reserve at any time by visiting the SmartShift settings screen.

What this means

  • SmartShift won’t sell to the grid below this percentage
  • Your home will keep using the battery, even below this level
  • You can still discharge below it with manual commands

Activity level preference

SmartShift offers three activity level preferences: Patient, Balanced and Active. You can switch between these at any time by visiting the SmartShift settings screen.

The main difference between the options is how aggressively the optimisation algorithm attempts to pursue savings opportunities.

  • Patient: Gentlest on your battery, holding out for the strongest prices and avoiding exporting from your battery to the grid at low prices.
  • Balanced (default): Middle ground between earnings and battery wear and tear. Acts on most good price moves.
  • Active: Takes more chances, including smaller wins and the option to export from your battery to the grid at lower export prices. Works your battery hardest.

How to update your settings

You can update your settings at any time by visiting the SmartShift settings screen.
