SA Power Networks (SAPN) — Residential two-way tariff (RESELE) — FY2026-27

Follow

Who is this tariff good for?

RESELE pays an extra 13.22c/kWh on top of the wholesale feed-in price for electricity exported between 5pm–9pm, every day during November–March. Imports are also cheaper for most of the day, except for 5-9pm. This makes it a good fit if:

  • ✅ You have battery energy left to export in the evening during summer
  • ✅ Your battery covers most of your evening usage, so your grid imports fall outside 5pm–9pm
  • ✅ You charge an EV or run big appliances during the day (10am–4pm)

SmartShift works with RESELE. It’ll time your battery’s exports for the 5pm–9pm reward window and soak up cheap daytime power, so you get more out of the tariff automatically.

How does this compare to my current tariff?

Amber passes through network tariff costs directly. Network tariff costs impact what you pay / earn on top of wholesale prices at Amber. The Live Prices screen will reflect your network tariff.

You can find your network tariff in the Settings tab, under Tariff Information

RESELE (two-way tariff) vs. RTOU (Time of Use)

With a battery and SmartShift, there is a strong case for switching tariff:

  • Bonus on evening exports. Earn an extra 13.22c/kWh on top of wholesale prices between 5pm–9pm, November–March
  • Cheaper morning and late-evening imports. Network imports from 6am–10am, 4pm–5pm and 9pm–midnight are cheaper by 10.65c/kWh, all year
  • Cheaper daytime imports. Network imports from 10am–4pm are cheaper
Season Usage rates Feed-in rates
Nov–Mar Cheaper for 14 hours a day (6am–5pm and 9pm–midnight). Higher from 5pm–9pm Significant upside: bonus 13.22c/kWh on exports from 5pm–9pm
Apr–Oct Same as November–March: cheaper for 14 hours a day, higher from 5pm–9pm No export reward. The 1.00c/kWh export charge from 10am–4pm is the same as RTOU

What’s the catch?

Our analysis found very little downside, and most customers were still better off on RESELE.

The main trade-off is the higher 36.01c/kWh peak import rate from 5pm–9pm. Using your battery to cover your usage in this window can help limit it, and SmartShift can help with this.

The 1.00c/kWh export charge from 10am–4pm (on exports above 9 kWh a day) is the same as on RTOU, so nothing changes there.

Your result will depend on how you use energy.

Things to consider before switching

  • You can request to switch back at any time. Contact Amber to request a switch to another eligible network tariff (RTOU)
  • The reward and the cheaper imports run on different schedules. The export reward applies November–March, while the cheaper import rates apply all year

How do I join?

If you're eligible, you can now request a tariff change in the Amber app, under Settings -> Explore other tariffs
