If you'd like to be involved in testing your Zappi please email ev-support@amber.com.au
This guide contains step by step instructions for configuring and connecting MyEnergi Zappi EV charger to Amber for EVs automation.
Model requirements - support for v2+
To check your model
Open the myenergi app → Devices.
Tap your zappi → tap the gear (Settings) icon.
Open Device info / About / Product info.
You’ll see Model (e.g. zappi v2) and Firmware (e.g. 5.2.x).
Firmware requirements - support for v5.114+
For V2 Zappi, follow these instructions
Step 1 — Create/confirm your MyEnergi account
Sign in at myaccount.myenergi.com.
You will need an account if you do not have one. If you’re new, create a Location, then Add product → Register a New Product, and enter your Zappi Serial and Registration code so it appears in Myenergi Products.
Step 2 — In the Amber app, add a new device
Open the Amber app → Devices → Add another device → myenergi Zappi.
Step 3 — Check that Amber has become your retailer
If you get stuck with the below screen, it's because Amber is not yet officially your retailer. You will need to wait 2 business days for your transfer to occur, and then you can add your charger.
If Amber is your retailer, you will skip this section.
Step 4 — Accept the ARENA trial terms
Amber and the Australian Renewable Energy Agency have partnered on the development of this product, and we need customer acceptance of the related terms and conditions. You can read more details by following the links.
Step 5 — Tell us if your Zappi has solar charging enabled
Answer the question about solar charging (say YES if you have CT clamps installed/configured with your Zappi). If you’re unsure or don’t have CTs, choose No—you can still link the charger now and enable solar later.
Note: Enabling solar modes without CT clamps leads to a poor experience (charging may stop or run at minimum). We recommend leaving solar off until CTs are fitted.
Step 6 — Copy your Chargebox ID to myenergi and finish linking
-
In the Amber app, copy or make a note of the Chargebox ID shown on screen
-
In your MyEnergi portal (log in here: https://www.myenergi.com/au/my-account/), open the Zappi → OCPP settings:
Toggle OCPP On and select Amber as the EV Management Platform (this auto-fills the backend URL).
Paste the Chargebox ID into the Chargebox ID field (leave other fields blank) → Save. The Example shown is 'OCPP123'
Return to the Amber app, wait 30 seconds, and then tap Check connection. The status will update to Linked when the connection is successful.
Step 7 — Battery x Zappi Coordination settings
This section is only relevant for homes with a battery, and only when the Zappi is installed "inside" the battery monitoring
These settings will help to prevent the Zappi from charging your EV when your battery is discharging, and will help to prevent the Zappi from charging from the battery at all. You can read more in the How Amber works with Zappi article.
During events where your battery exports (eg. SmartShift does a discharge), Zappi can still see “available power” and continue charging - especially if your battery is DC-coupled or you have no CTs fitted.
A4EV can’t remotely change Zappi’s local Battery/Export margin but you can change this setting yourself.
CT configuration: Confirm CT clamps are present, clipped in the correct direction, and mapped to the right circuits (grid/gen/battery). Without correct CTs installation, ECO+ decisions are blind and grid spillage can be common. Talk to your installer if you need help changing your CT clamp configuration.
AC-coupled battery with CT clamps:
In Zappi’s battery settings, choose Avoid Drain or Avoid Both so the EV won’t pull from the home battery during discharge. This keeps battery exports intact. (You must set this locally on the zappi itself).
DC-coupled battery or you have NO CT clamps
In Zapppi's battery settings, set a small Export Margin (e.g., 100 W) to reduce the chance of draining the battery during solar-only charging—note this modestly reduces solar capture and won’t help during deliberate high exports, where Zappi will still see plenty of export and may charge. In these windows, you can pause EV charging in the app.
Zappi have a video about how to use this setting.
It is strongly recommended that if you have a Zappi, Solar, and a Battery, that you get CT clamps installed.
