What You See
By entering your postcode on the homepage (but not clicking the get a quote button) you can see live prices in your area based on the most common network tariff of Amber customers. These update every 30 minutes.
The live prices (usage and feed-in rates) provided in the module on the homepage are provided solely for demonstration purposes.
They are intended to showcase how live prices - including usage and feed-in rates can vary throughout the day based on supply, demand and the amount of renewable energy in the grid.
However, since we don’t know much about your energy set up and location at this stage we won’t always be correct.
It’s important to be aware that wholesale prices can change significantly between networks, regions and based on which tariff you are on.
How We Detect Your Location
We automatically detect your approximate location based on your internet connection (IP address). This tells us:
- Your postcode
- Which electricity network serves your area
Note: This detection is approximate and typically identifies your city or suburb, not your exact address. If the location shown isn't quite right, don't worry - you can always enter your actual postcode manually.
What Prices Are Based On
The prices we show you include:
- Wholesale electricity costs - The real-time price of electricity in the wholesale market
- Network charges - What your local electricity network charges to deliver power to your home
- Environmental costs - Required renewable energy and environmental charges
We calculate these prices based on a standard residential Time-of-Use tariff for your network area. This is the type of plan most new Amber customers in your area would be on.
Tariffs by Network Area
We use standard residential Time-of-Use tariffs for each network. Here's what we show for your area:
For an Amber bill estimate, we recommend using Amber’s Get A Quote tool, which shows estimated pricing specific to your set up, geographic location and household energy needs.
