About this FAQ
This FAQ covers common questions about the CDR scheme. For more details on how we manage and share your data in line with our legal obligations, please refer to our CDR policy on our Terms and Conditions page.
What is the Consumer Data Right?
The CDR is a government scheme that allows you to securely access and share your energy data with accredited third parties (also called Accredited Data Recipients or ADRs).
You can request that we share your energy data with ADRs of your choice. We will only share your data once you have requested us to.
Why would I want to share my data?
You may want to share your data to receive energy plan comparisons relevant to your specific usage and needs.
Can Amber share my data?
While we are registered as a data holder under the CDR to assist with your data sharing requests, we currently have an active exemption from our CDR obligations until 31 May 2025. This means we will start processing your requests to share data and comply with our obligations under our CDR policy starting 1 June 2025. You can check this exemption on the ACCC’s public register.
We appreciate your understanding and look forward to supporting your CDR data-sharing needs from 1 June 2025 onward.
Am I eligible to share my data?
You can share your data if you:
- have an electricity account with us;
- are over 18 years old;
- have a mobile number and email registered and authenticated by us; and
- consume less than 5 GWh in the past 12 months.
If CDR data sharing is unavailable for your account, you may receive an error message when attempting to share your data.
What data can I share?
- your name and contact details;
- account and plan details;
- any concessions, rebates, or grants on your account;
- information about your bills and payment methods.
- your electricity usage (metering data);
- data about your electricity national meter identifier (NMI standing data); and
- information about your electricity generation or storage devices.
How can I share my CDR data?
- An accredited third party or ADR will ask you to confirm that you want to share your CDR data held by us (via their website or apps).
- If you select yes, we’ll verify your identity by sending a one-time password to the email address linked to your Amber account.
- If you have multiple accounts with us, you’ll be able to select which account(s) you’d like to share with the ADR.
- We’ll let you know what CDR data will be shared and for how long.
- Finally, we’ll ask for your consent to authorise us to share the CDR data with the ADR.
How can I manage my CDR data?
You can manage your data sharing arrangement via our online CDR dashboard via consent.cdr.amber.com.au. Our CDR dashboard allows you to:
- view the data you’ve shared;
- view which ADRs have access to your data;
- view the date and duration of each authorisation, and any disclosures of corrected CDR data; and
- withdraw your consent to share data at any time.
How to correct my CDR data
If you believe your CDR data is incorrect, you can ask us to update or correct it by emailing us at info@amber.com.au or calling us at 1800 531 907.
How can I add secondary users or nominated representatives to my account?
For residential account: If you would like to add another authorised person to your residential account, you can email us at info@amber.com.au or call us at 1800 531 907 and we’ll assist you. Once an authorised person is added, the "secondary user instruction" feature will be enabled in your CDR dashboard, which will grant the secondary user access to manage CDR data sharing. You can later remove this secondary user’s authority by contacting us.
To be added as a secondary user, an individual must be at least 18 years of age and have been granted authority as an authorised representative on your energy account.
For business account: If you would like to nominate an authorised representative to your account, you can email info@amber.com.au or call us at 1800 531 907 and we’ll assist you. You can later remove this representative’s authority by contacting us.
