A guide to the Amber for EVs main screen

Follow

The Amber for EVs main screen is your hub for managing your EV charging. From here you can see what your car is doing right now, what's coming up in the charging forecast, and jump into Manual Control, History and Live.

You'll find it in the Amber app under the Devices tab or through Settings.

Here's a quick look at what the main screen looks like before we dive into the details:

The toolbar at the top gives you a snapshot of your car's status and quick links to key features:

  1. A summary of your vehicle's state of charge and current status, such as whether it's charging or unplugged
  2. Manual Control: start a near-instant charging session (only available when plugged in at home)
  3. History: view your recent charging history and breakdowns
  4. Settings: update how you want your car to charge

Charging Forecast

Charging forecast EV home page.png

Note: At time of writing, we show a fixed battery capacity. This only applies to the forecast, when your car reaches its maximum charge level (eg. 80%) it will stop charging. We expect to make this be a true reflection of your car’s capacity soon.

The forecast details current and future charging intentions. This plan updates every 5 minutes.

The forecast shows your current and upcoming charging activity. It updates every 5 minutes based on your home setup, state of charge, price controls and your car's location. You can expand each row for more detail on the charging or resting period.

For example, say your car is plugged in first thing in the morning but prices are above your set thresholds and solar is forecast to kick in soon. The forecast will show your car resting while it waits for solar generation to start.

If your car isn't plugged in, that will show as the current status. The forecast will show what would happen if you were to plug in.

When your car reaches the maximum charge limit set in your vehicle's app, it will stop charging and show as resting until the state of charge drops again.

Please note:

  • The forecast currently shows a fixed battery capacity rather than your car's actual capacity. This only affects the forecast display. When your car reaches its charge limit (e.g. 80%), it will stop charging as expected. We're working on updating this to reflect your car's true capacity.
  • This screen is currently only available to Tesla customers. OCPP and charger-only customers will default to the Live view.
