What is Amber for EVs?

Your EV is one of the biggest users of household electricity, and with uptake of both EVs and renewables in Australia growing fast, shifting when you charge your EV can make a real difference to what you will pay.

A4EVs is an automation, that helps customers with a compatible EV to charge.

With A4EV you set your preferences, and then Amber will charge your EV for you.

Setting your preferences includes telling Amber when you would like to:

1. Automatically charge at cheap times, like when lot’s of renewable are in the grid and the import price is low
2. Charge your EV using the excess solar being produced by your solar system
3. Automatically stop charging when the price gets expensive, including during demand windows
4. Coordinate EV charging with your battery, to avoid scenarios like accidentally discharging power to your EV from your battery when you expected to be selling back to the grid

A4EV takes these preferences and shows you the EV charging plan over the next 24 hours, so you can see what charging is planned for you, and experiment with your preferences to see the different charging you will get.

Amber for EVs gives you a simple way to charge smarter without the hassle. Here's what it can do:

• Ready-By charging: Tell us when you need your car ready and how much charge you need. We’ll automate your charging to reach your target using the cheapest, greenest windows available.

  

• Solar charging: Automatically charge from your excess solar only (if you have it), without extra hardware or third-party apps. A simple way to get more free kilometres.

  

• Price based charging: Automatically take advantage of times when grid energy is cheapest and greenest, and stop charging when it's expensive. Great if your solar falls short or you don't have panels. You can set different price thresholds depending on your vehicles state of charge eg. Happy to pay up to 20c/kwh when car is below 20%soc.
